B.A Portfolio: week 8 reading

Art History, Frames & Filters

A lot of the meaning found in art comes from the historical context in which the piece is done. This historical context seeps in to art sometimes will out the artist even realizing is. Artist might not also purposely set out to create a piece that reflects on social, cultural or political issues they are facing at the time they are creating the piece. Every artist is influence by their experiences and thoughts that occur in their daily lives. These experiences shape who a person is and shapes the work an artist creates. Sometimes when an artist puts meaning within their work but this meaning may be changed by the different interpretations of its viewers. When an individual looks at an art piece of reads a book or even what a movie, they bring their own meaning to the works because of their different cultural backgrounds and experiences from the artist or creator.  Though the artists inputs their intended meaning into the work, every piece is open to different interpretation and meanings because of those who view the work.
